Origins

In my adolescence I developed the aspiration for people to never feel about themselves the way that I felt about myself. I felt small and vulnerable. However, to fulfill this goal I had to first reconcile the way I felt about myself. Furthermore, I figured that if I want respect, I’d first have to demand it from myself before I can demand it from others.

Time to get Serious

It started with the gym. Circa June 2013 (age 17) I actually was already conscious of weightlifting and started lifting a few years prior (age 14).

The problem? I wasn't serious. I allowed poisonous popular tropes like "you need to rest" and "rest is a vital part of recovery" to enter my daily decision-making process.

I'll let you infer whether or not that thinking and the 2-3 days a week of 45 minute lifting because "after 45 minutes you aykshually lose muscle" garnered me results.

So after a tumultuous junior year I said it's time to cut the shit. All those tropes are excuses dressed up as "harsh truths". Isn't precisely the problem for people that they "rest" too much?

That summer I forced myself up in the morning at 5am before work so I couldn't use the tired after work excuse. I started with the goal of gaining 10 lbs (120 to then 130) by the end of the summer.

The Angel and The Devil

This is a point most people reach, yet never beat. So what was the difference for me? The driving force for me to get into the gym was the desire for masterful control over myself.

There's an angel and a devil on your shoulders. Every day, most people listen to what the devil tells them to do. I decided to choose the angel telling me to go to the gym everyday.

Understand that this is the crucial start: you gain respect here by respecting yourself. You are no longer a fraud. When you say you are going to do something you do it.

You are now consistent and congruent. People listen to you because they know you are no longer putting on any kind of act.

3 years later

Going to the gym everyday was a second-nature habit. I also ascertained a physique most people only dream of. However, it wasn't about an appearance, or specific numbers I put up. I developed a keen sense for truth.

Fundamentals of human nature, why nobody can get to the gym, what most people's thoughts are, and so on and so forth.

Armed with knowledge, and self control in the highest form, my mind is invulnerable to any slight, and I'm able to engineer my path forward to my goals irrespective of what challenges reveal themselves. In other words Eyes on the Prize.
